Marty’s Deli

Business Description

Marty’s Deli, formerly a roving pop-up shop, opened their brick & mortar location in Northeast Minneapolis in early 2023. This sandwich shop, owned by Martha (Marty) Polacek, features delightful sandwich options on house-baked focaccia, soup, and other pantry favorites. Martha connected with MNimize while still in construction to reduce single-use plastic from the start!

Plastic Reduction Actions Implemented

Marty’s Deli took advantage of the MNimize Rebate to purchase reusable utensils for dine in customers, and certified compostable bowls and utensils for to-go orders.

Additionally, MNimize helped Marty’s Deli apply for Hennepin County’s Bin & Compostable Bag Grant to receive new recycling and organics recycling containers.

As Marty’s Deli is single-use plastic free for dine-in and to-go, they have achieved MNimize Gold!

Outcomes

  • 2,340 single-use soup cups avoided annually
  • 2,340 plastic spoons avoided annually

MNimize helped us conceptualize our dine-in and to-go packaging while we were getting the doors open to our brick-and-mortar. At a time when there are 1,000 things to consider and decisions to make, it was great to have them to guide us in how to avoid wastefulness. The rebate was super helpful too, we’re working through product months after opening!
